Washington County Fair, Hillsboro, Oregon: The Parrot Pirate Show

The year is in the Summer of 2016.

  What makes me pause and want to watch a show?  I ask myself.  It is the display?  That seems to not quite fit into what I see at past fairs I have been too.  This year, on the grounds is a  boat out of water and a stage set up.  Now the stage is more what I know.  It means there is going to be a show. I need to check this out.  I walk towards the ship and it looks, to me, like an animal show with a...department store mannequin hanging on for dear life.



 

 

Ok, I am hooked, I wore something similar in the 1980's.

  The quality I look for in a show, to showcase is audience participation. Kids and adults hands on learning, show, tell and being able to connect.  I had a parrot sit on my arm holding on by its toes.

An Evening with Teddy Roosevelt, Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge

Teddy Roosevelt was born October 27th, 1858 in New York, weak, sickly and had asthma.
  Known as Teedy sometimes, and he was homeschooled.  Lessons were taught to him by his aunt, who was a Southern woman.  He liked History, and also was good in Natural Science, and Literature.  He collected all sorts of wildlife, alive or dead in New York.  Teddy was nearsighted.  At 13 he got a gun that he couldn't break, and wasn't good at shooting birds.  He wanted to be a Natural Scientist, went to Harvard College, and didn't like law school.
  Grandma was Martha Stewart.  His first child was a girl, her name was Alice.  His father died at 45 of stomach cancer, his mother died of Typhoid fever and his wife died of Wrights disease.
  Teddy was a rancher of 450 cattle.
  Theodore Roosevelt had 6 kids, the second child was Ted Jr. His youngest two sons were very mischievous.  His daughter Alice, lived till 96 years.  His youngest boy, Quentin, was most like him.  (Read "The White House Gang" by Earl looker.)
  Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was Vice President and the 26th President of the United States by 42 years old. He wrote 30 books, and inspired the Teddy Bear.

 Fire Department "Drunk and other Accidents"

A presentation to the Y-C High School Students with the public welcome.

Setting up for the presentation

Ready to begin the presentation of what happens after an accident happened.

1. Several officer arrive on scene to direct traffic.
2. Fire trucks show up second to prepare things for the medics and get the severely injured out of the vehicles.
3. Medical units show up third to help all they can with the wounded.
4. If necessary, Life flight shows up to get the severely injured to a hospital fast as possible.
5. The fire crew removes all parts of a vehicle so they can move the severely injured without hurting them further.
6. Some firemen hold the injured necks still so that they stay alive in order to hopefully be saved. Police collect evidence to see what led to the crash from those who saw what happened.
7. The most critically injured are taken to the hospital by life flight.
8. Some extra fire crew or police stand by to comfort grief-stricken parents and/or friends.
9. Cars or vehicles finally show up and all those on scene line up to show grief for the ones that died, the vehicles then carry away the dead bodies on scene.

11. Medical examiners show up at the child's parents doorstep to tell them of their child's death.
